Send new user activation link with manual admin approval

Chad Butler · Mar 19, 2018 ·

This post describes a very similar process to what is described in the tutorial titled “Send new user an activation link in the new registration email.” The twist on this version is that this will send the user an email requesting that they confirm their email address, then it will send the admin a notification to manually activate that user.

The original version in the other tutorial was intended for use where users just need to confirm their email address. This version is for confirming their email address and then approving the account. Continue Reading →

Automatically approve accounts from whitelisted domains

Chad Butler · Jun 20, 2017 ·

This article is a followup to “Restrict registration to specific email domains, IPs, or other data” that adds an element for moderated registration.  In this case, moderated registration is used and registrants with emails accounts from whitelisted domains are automatically approved, leaving all others to be approved by an administrator.

It should be noted that this only applies to WP-Members registration. It has become more common to integrate WP-Members with other plugins that also have registration, such as WooCommerce, BuddyPress, bbPress, etc.  If you are using one of these plugins for registration, that’s fine – but you need to then look into their process for custom validation.  Continue Reading →

WP-Members 3.1

WP-Members 3.1 contains some long awaited features, some fixes, and some improvements.

There are no changes to the database with this update so if you are currently at 3.0 or higher, you should be able to roll back without difficulty.  (If you are using a version earlier than 3.0, there are changes from 2.x to 3.x that will be implemented in this update that would affect rolling back to 2.x.  If that’s the case for you, you should test the update on a development system prior to upgrading.)

This version is currently available on GitHub as version 3.0.10.  There will be no official 3.0.10 release on wordpress.org – this is merely a transitional release tag for building and testing leading into the official 3.1.0 release.  The 3.0.10 is packaged and available for testing.  The full production release of 3.1.0 will be available soon.

Here is a list of new features, improvements, and fixes: Continue Reading →

Send new user an activation link in the new registration email

In the past, I have put together a method for making the link in the admin notification email a single click process for activating users. But what if you want users to be sent an activation link to confirm their account and activate themselves?

This tutorial will walk you through changing the initial email to the user to include an activation link that, when clicked will activate the user account.  This can be used as an email verification process.  The tutorial includes all necessary code snippets as well as detailed instructions for setting it up. Continue Reading →
