Today, I’ve added another free plugin available from RocketGeek.com – WP-Members Stop Spam Registrations.
This is an extension for WP-Members that validates registrations through the stopforumspam.com API, checking the user’s registered email and IP address against spam data. The plugin hooks into not only WP-Members’ registration process, but WP’s native registration as well, so as to prevent “back-door” spam registrations.
StopForumSpam.com is a service that records reports of spam on forums, blogs, and wikis to name a few. All these records are then made available through their API to block suspected spammers before they can get in the front door. Everyone is familiar with more traditional “solve the word” systems to prevent abuse, Stop Forum Spam is a targeted and specialized solution to help stop abuse of your website.
Once the plugin is installed, new user registrations will be checked against the lists on stopforumspam.com, which maintains lists of known hostile and abusive addresses. If a match is found then your new member won’t get their foot in the door and won’t be able to register on your site.
This adds an extra level of security to your WP-Members install and prevents bad registrations BEFORE they occur.
Try the FREE WP-Members Stop Spam Registrations extension. If you like it and would like to add additional security to your WP-Members installation, check out the WP-Members Security plugin. It has additional features such as registration blacklisting by IP, username, and email address, password expiration, and preventing concurrent logins. The Security extension applies both the stopforumspam.com API and the Akismet anti-spam API, as well as failed login logging and notification feature.
