I finally crossed the threshold of getting a plugin updates API in place for the WP-Members premium extensions. This has been a long time coming and has been something that has held back the further development of some core products that have been cooking.
The first two extensions to get the updates update are MailChimp Integration and Advanced Options. (Update 7/23 – Email as Username and User List have been added as well. Check the downloads page.)
If you have either of these extensions installed, please download and update to this latest release. Although there are not really any differences between the most recent release of each and the update, only the update will have the automatic updates process built into it. Updating these manually now will mean that you will be notified automatically in the future of an update to either of these extensions and you’ll be able to load that update right in your admin panel just like a plugin hosted on wordpress.org.
All of the remaining extensions will receive an update to package in the plugin update API as well. I’ll be rolling those out as quickly as possible.
Other Coming Changes
For you loyal premium support subscribers, be sure to watch for further updates. I’ll be rolling out a license key process for extensions in the near future. Here’s what this means for you:
Extensions will move to a separate product from support. Individual extensions will be able to be purchased, or there will be an extensions package. While support will be available as a separate product, there will also be a “one-price-for-all” package that includes basically everything that is currently available for the $59 annual subscription. But the price will not be $59 in the future – except for you!
Current subscribers will remain “grandfathered” in at their current subscription rate. This is my way of expressing appreciation for your support. So when pricing changes, it will only change for new customers. For existing customers, you’ll be in with the total package subscription.
So as the license key api rolls out, existing subscribers will receive a license key for extensions. This will be made available through your profile on the site. Make sure your current profile includes your correct email address. I don’t have all of the details worked out yet, and things won’t be rolled out until I’ve got that worked out completely. But in the spirit of full disclosure, I want to make users aware of the coming changes.
If you’re not a current subscriber, then I would encourage you to consider joining today. The current pricing model will be changing, and while there will be some options in terms of buying individual extensions, you will not get a better package deal that the current pricing.
